Our Mission: The West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance is a cabinet-level agency that provides services and benefits assistance to state veterans. The Department’s work helps bring in $5 billion in federal funds annually to serve West Virginia’s Veterans. The Department operates fifteen benefits offices statewide, with staff members conducting over 250 consultations daily. Additionally, the Department operates the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, the Barboursville Veterans Home, and the Clarksburg Veterans Nursing Facility.
The West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance – Parkersburg Benefits Office is a regional state office that helps veterans and eligible family members access federal and state veterans’ benefits. It serves veterans from Tyler, Wood, Pleasants, Mason, and Ritchie counties, making it the primary WVDVA benefits office for the Tyler County area.
Services offered: Accredited Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) provide assistance with a wide range of benefits-related matters, including:
VA disability compensation and pension claims
Education benefits
Burial and cemetery benefits
Healthcare eligibility
Appeals and representation before the Veterans Benefits Administration when a claim decision is disputed
The office’s role is to guide veterans through the claims process, prepare documentation, and represent them throughout the benefits system at no cost.
