  • Healthy Grandfamilies Program

    Healthy Grandfamilies Program

    The WVU Tyler County Extension Services offers Healthy Grandfamilies, a program for grandparents raising grandchildren or providing kinship care. Meetings are held monthly alternating between the Tyler County 4-H Building and the Sistersville Church of Christ. Each session features guest speakers on a variety of relevant topics and includes lunch. This program is
    sponsored by West Virginia State University.

  • Mountaineer Food Bank

    Mountaineer Food Bank

    The FRN provides mobile food pantries in Sistersville, WV 3 times per year.  The Senior Center in Middlebourne provides the mobile pantry at their location 3 times a year, too.

    CSFP Food boxes

    The FRN, in collaboration with the Mountaineer Food Bank, distributes 60 food boxes to seniors aged 60 and older (based on their income) in two locations in Tyler County once a month.

  • Summer Feeding Project

    Summer Feeding Project

    The Tyler County Summer Feeding Program runs each year from mid -June through mid-July and provides free lunch to all Tyler County students ages 18 and younger. The program is held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at Sistersville Park and at the McCormick Greene and McCormick Crossing apartment complexes. Adult meals are also available for a small fee.

    Students receive nutritious meals in a safe and welcoming environment, and each week a local business or organization typically sponsors a fun activity for the children. The program is made possible through collaboration between Tyler County Schools and the Tyler County Family Resource Network, with support from community members and volunteers.

    Tyler County Resource Guides

    The Family Resource Network (FRN) publishes a resource guide, which is updated yearly and provides information on local programs, services, and support. The guide is available in print and can also be accessed online under the “Resources” tab above. If your business or organization would like to be listed, please visit the Resources tab to be included.

  • Tyler County Schools Back to School Fair

    Tyler County Schools Back to School Fair

    All Tyler County elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to attend this free annual event held each August. Local vendors and community partners participate to educate families about the services and resources they offer while building stronger connections within the community. During the event, students receive free hygiene items and school supplies, and they have access to free dental and vision screenings as well as haircuts.

    In addition, all Tyler County elementary and middle school students receive a backpack filled with school supplies on the first day of school to help ensure they begin the year prepared and confident.

    This program is made possible through the generous support and collaboration of the Tyler County Board of
    Education, local vendors, community members, businesses, churches, teachers, students, and volunteers.

    Blessing Boxes

    The boxes are stocked with non-perishable food items for individuals and families in need. They are accessible anytime, providing convenient support to community members who may need assistance.

    They are at the following locations:

    • Lions Club Blessing Box located in-front of the Sistersville City Building
    • St. Paul’s United Methodist Church 130 S. 4 th Ave Paden City, WV located under the driveway awning.
    • Middlebourne Community Center Dodd Street Middlebourne, WV-Across the street from the post office.

  • Community Essentials Program

    Community Essentials Program

    Essentials Closet in TCMS & TCHS

    The Family Resource Network (FRN) works closely with the local school system who runs an essential closet at the middle and high school, providing students in need with hygiene products and some clothing. The FRN helps provide items as needed, ensuring students have access to these essential resources.

    Mobile Essentials Closet

    Through grant funding, the FRN also purchased a trailer used to transport essential items—such as cleaning products, hygiene items, shoes, and socks to various locations throughout the community. All items are donated free of charge, making them accessible to anyone in need.

    The Family Resource Network (FRN) also hosts a free table at the event, where attendees can take an item from
    the table and register for a door prize. See more.

  • Sistersville Community Garden

    Sistersville Community Garden

    A community garden was established in Sistersville Park in Sistersville, West Virginia. Members of the community volunteer their time to tend to the garden.  Everyone is welcome to harvest the produce for free. The project was made possible by a grant from the Memorial Health Foundation.

  • Community Baby Shower: A Family Event

    Community Baby Shower: A Family Event

    Each April, we co-host a Community Baby Shower and Family Event with the Tyler County Family Support Center. The event typically takes place in Sistersville at the Elks Lodge. Lunch is provided for attending families. Vendors are set up throughout the event, and families are encouraged to visit vendor booths to learn about available services and community resources. Pregnant women and mothers with children up to the age of four receive essential items such as diapers and baby gear, along with access to helpful resources and support from local organizations. Attending families also have the opportunity to win door prizes.
